VOT 1.0
(Spring 1990)

Tim and me in my living room in 1990 (Click to see a bigger picture)

In 1990 I was living in a converted garage in Mountain view. I set up my living room as a recording space. I found these pictures recently of one of the times that we were recording.

Fun things that I see in the pic are: There is a PZM mic on the wall. I still had a turntable and record collection at that time (actually I still do). I was using my Yamaha EM-150 powered mixer as a stereo. This is the same powered mixer that Tom and I used to record in 1976. I still use it today... I think that its pretty much been on 24/7 for about 20 years. Keyboards that I see in the picture are a Casio FZ-1 sampler, a Casio CZ-1 synth and some kind of Roland synth. A Tascam-388 which was an 1/4" 8-track for recording. It was really hard to work with and I only recorded a few things. I also see a can of Billy Beer on the shelf.

The master tapes are gone for most of the stuff that Tim and I recorded. I did restore a cassette of a rough mix that we did. Here are some of the recordings.

Sea Journey 3:54 Chick Corea tune (Song for Sally) Pat - 3 guitar tracks, Tim percussion and effects. Tim was playing brushes on a cardboard box processed through a digital delay unit.
Tim's Thing 2:28 By Tim Parkhurst. Started out as a percussionist take on a synth piece. It wound up sounding like the soundtrack for a bad porno flick. Tim is playing a sampled percussion kit from the keyboard of the FZ-1. My only contribution is a muffled bass line.
3-D Kung Fu Zombie Queens from Mars 1:05 By Pat Scandalis. Tim - PVC pipe samples, keyboards, effects, drums. Pat - keyboards. Samples from a Fairlight CMI were downloaded into the FZ-1.
VOT Redux (DJ Mix)! 1:44 Me playing in soundforge gluing little bits together. December 2002
Shopping on the Moon - Tim's Parody of "Walking on the Moon". Unfortunatly it seems to be lost forever. I guess that we were going to send it to either Dr. Demento or Weird Al.
